Welcome to 2015 in Room 7 - so exciting!

Kia ora all,
I'm sitting here in this extreme but gorgeous heat - thinking of the beach I'll be walking on tomorrow!
But I am in one of my favourite places at the moment Room 7 =) Getting ready for the year ahead with my new class.

"He aha te mea nui o te ao?

He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!
What is the most important thing in the world?
It is people! It is people! It is people!

Happy & safe Christmas to you all

Ho ho ho! Some photos to brighten your day - and to say thank you all for a great year.
Thank you for my gifts - and your lovely words in cards & notes.
As the children witnessed I could not read some cards while in class - honestly I must of gone through a few boxes of tissues.

Kapa Haka did us proud at our final school assembly for 2014

Here is Lachie making his creation....

The girls busy making their headbands....

 Good job Tahirih! Stunning!!!!

And....Grace.

Last reading activity for the year - facts about Christmas. The children were quite fascinated with some of the answers......Christmas treasure hunt.

 Bailey & Bella working together.....
Getting the answers - NEARLY THERE!!!!

 CAMERON WAS WORKING SO HARD!
Below...this is it ROOM 7 nearly bare! We sat in a circle and talked about a word to describe Room 7 over 2014 - Shkhan made Miss Burt cried as his word was FAMILY! On that note - be happy, be safe & hug each other xxx
Over & out - Miss Burt =)

Beautiful Christmas Song...

This song we are loving: "This is an original song written by Andy Eldred and played by the Gathering Band from St. Lukes in Greytown New Zealand. May you have a blessed Christmas and wonder-filled new year!"

December..Last week of school...2014..

Kia ora & Happy Christmas to you all - be safe, be merry and have fun!

REMINDERS for our last few days...

1. Please have your child bring a large plastic bag or cloth bag to school on Tuesday to put all their books & equipment in.

2. WEDNESDAY is our final morning at school...All the children will need is their morning tea. So please don't bring school bags as we walk to Kuranui College for the final assembly and the children are dismissed from there.

3. SO PICK UP...from Kuranui College at 1pm - Wednesday 17th December.

I was most impressed with the childrens' individual Inquiries. They chose their own topic and presented this information in either a keynote or poster. These posters went home on Thursday (please excuse if your child wasn't finished, they can finish at home).
The children shared in a small group and had to tell the group 2-3 facts that they learnt.

Thank you for my prezzies - Shkhan & George. Lovely words =)

Happy Birthday to Theo.

PASS IT ON....Archie, Boston, Archie & Grace lining up to read out their pass on the kindness tickets.
My 2 right hand men....counting the dollars for our Homework Auction...
WOOHOO.....look what we bought...
Before the children opened what they had bought.
Mother Clare - joined in the Jump Rope for Heart.

Camp was amazing - the biggest thing I get out of camp is seeing children giving everything a go and trying new experiences. Also mixing with children they may not normally hang out with.

Have a good break all - have fun & laugh...

Week 9 in Room 7

I SEE YOU. (Not written by me (at all) but totally what I think and to you all - thank you for your child/ren - AROHANUI Rachel

It's a time of badges, certificates, medals, trophies, recognition, awards, prizes and 'seeing' of high achievement. I love seeing the kids that shine at this time of year - a big high heartfelt round of applause to you. You so deserve it for the effort you have put in.
But this message is for the kids that didn't get called up for any of the above...
I SEE YOU. To the child that conquered their fear of heights, or sleeping in the dark, or riding without training wheels or sleeping out for the night for the first time this year, I SEE YOU To the child that managed to resolve more conflict than they started this year, to the child that learnt to say the impossible; "I'm sorry", and to the child that walked away from the fighting instead of getting involved, I SEE YOU. To the child for whom school is a huge struggle, you get up everyday and you go, I SEE YOU. To the child that battled all year with the maths, or reading, or concentration, or speaking out in class, or learning their words, but persevered anyway, I SEE YOU. To the child that found the kindness in their heart reach out in anyway to another person or to an animal in need or in pain, I SEE YOU. To the child that learnt to give and to share for the first time this year and even found joy in these, I SEE YOU. To the child that battles to make friends and to be social, you made new friends this year and for that, I SEE YOU. To the child who wanted so much to please, but was just out of sight of an adult who perhaps was too busy or too distracted, I SEE YOU.
To the child who lost a friend or a loved one this year, but carried on everyday bravely even though their heart ached, I SEE YOU

To the brave parents that try everyday to do the best for their kids, I SEE YOU. May you and your children revel in small but significant victories that you have both experienced this year, as I will with my beautiful children. For every year there is progress and growth, we don't need a podium or handshake or a hall of applause to be seen. I SEE YOU.

Welcome to week 9

Kia ora, 1 1/2 weeks left...a fab-OH week in Room 7. As you can see by the pics - a lot of work and AWESOME stuff happening.
This Friday reports will be coming home - check your child's school bag - If your child has had their birthday report this year - they will have a progress report (Y3 children). All year 4 children will have a full report =) Along with the reports will be a stationery list for 2015 and a magnet with the school year dates for 2015 (Youngest child or only will have this in their envelope).
Have a really good week!! "Shine"

I love this photo of Schalk leading the class in the Karakia. AND LOOK AT OUR SHARP students - Oscar for always putting his hand up to help - no matter what! And Giselle...for....being awesome on our trip to Mt Bruce.
