About me - Miss Burt - Room 7 teacher

Kia ora,
My name is Rachel Burt, I have been a teacher since 1994. (phew!)

I have been teaching at Greytown School since 2001, where I have taught in all age areas of the school. I was the release teacher in years 5-6 for 7 years. I worked with new entrants as the release teacher for 2 years. And in between I have done relieving work in all other classrooms.

I have been full time teaching in Room 7 since 2014 - and I just love this age group - years 3 & 4.

I am a mother to a gorgeous girl Amelia and we live in Greytown.

I am from a family of 8 children, I am number 5. So right in the middle.
My passions include: Wellbeing, helping people, personal & professional reading/writing, listening to music, being in the bush or by the beach, travelling - taking off to little places with Amelia.

I graduated from Wellington College of Education in 1993 - my first teaching position was in a little town in Malaysia. I taught in Malaysia for 2 stints both times coming back to New Zealand.
I loved my time in Malaysia - it brought a new confidence out in me and a love for travelling.

I spent a time teaching (back then form 1 & 2 children) in Featherston.
Another of my favourite teaching experiences was working at Featherston School, I was a mixture of the release teacher and worked with children who needed extra help with their learning.
After teaching in Featherston I moved to Sydney, Australia where I was a Nanny for nearly 2 years. I left Sydney to  work as a teacher at an American Summer Camp for children with ADD, ADHD and special needs.
My life after America was back in New Zealand working in and managing backpacker hostels.
I then travelled to England to have a stint of being a Kiwi in London.
Back to New Zealand where I found Greytown School, and here I am.

I love our community of Greytown and Greytown School.
There are so many special people here and I feel blessed that Amelia & I are a part of this community.
AROHANUI.
