Week 6 in Room 7

William made 2 boats in the weekend - he liked what Amy had to say about being an Engineer. His structures had triangles, sticks, straws, sellotape, paper, coat hanger these were all used to make the boats stable.
Future NZ boat builder....

Have a look in our classroom at our ASPIRATIONAL tree - the children all wrote out an aspiration to aspire their friends.

These are some of the aspirational things that Room 7 students wrote:
Have an awesome day!
Try your hardest and think happy thoughts.
If you're stuck, ask a friend.
Mistakes help you learn.
Use a different strategy.
I am awesome at this!
I am going to train my brain.
I'm good at this!
Give it a go!
Keep on trying.
I can do it - I am doing my best!
I am good at this.
Even if you're stuck, do your best, best, best!
Do my best, best, best.
You are a CAN girl/boy - NOT  a can't girl/boy
Mistakes make your brain grow.
Friends help you - that is what they are here for.
You are awesome!
You are the best.

Having a go is like winning the race.

I'm on the right track.
Miss Take is a great teacher.
I am so good at this.
I am awesome at this.
Is this really my best work?
I have a growth mindset - I can do it.
If I can't do it - I can't do it YET!

Our SHARP lessons for weeks 7 and 8 is about BEING POSITIVE.
Towards others and towards ourselves. I think we all need a good dose of this - and learn to be kind to ourselves...

Week 5 in SUPER SHARP SEVEN...

Another busy week in Room 7 - the children were great in our school orchard.
We picked up the rotten apples and the good apples....And Aisling took some of the good apples home. Her and her mum (thank you Ursula) kindly made the class an apple pie, that I cut up and we all had a small piece.
Mrs Kirkland's pigs would of enjoyed the not so good apples.

Reading in the library: A reminder that our library day is Thursday - most children are very good at bringing their books back. As a year 3 or 4 the children can get 2 books issued:

This pic is for our Baseball mad kids ;)
What a lovely cake - spoilt with 2 birthday cakes AND THEY ALL WENT!!!!! Isla was lovely and had the class sing Happy Birthday =)
The brothers - Tommy & Angus with their yummy banana cake that also got shared with the class.

Cam, Amelia, George, Charlie and Riley - reading their books.
Mrs Kirkland played an audio clip from the Andy Griffith's book: Just Tricking (a funny book).

Thank you for my lovely 21st + wishes =) We had a lovely shared lunch - a good variety of food - the children were very well behaved with nice manners =)

Good ole pass the parcel - lucky there was a prize in there that all the children got to share.

The week that was...Week 4 in Room 7 =)

A big big thank you to Sam's Nana Lynn for the wonderful maths games she has made Room 7. The children have been playing with the games so much.
Such appreciation for this very generous gift to our children.
We found out Lyn likes peanut slabs so we stuck a few sneaky bars onto Lynn's thank you cards from the children.
Junior Enviro Group: This is held once a fortnight in a 2nd lunchtime...I was very proud on Wednesday as the only children to turn up were from Room 7. Here they are with recycled envelopes that we they have decorated - the envelopes will house the sunflower seeds we got from our school sunflowers. We are then going to sell the seeds - the money will go towards some new seedlings for different plants.
BRIDGE BUILDING...for our Golden Time on Friday we decided to have a structure making - the purpose of this was to see who could build the highest, most sound structure. Using 20 skewers, 16 marshmallows .....
This is a pre try using paper to build a bridge. We had cars to see if the bridge we made was stable.
Great conversations around - why their bridge didn't hold.
Look at the base of the bridge - was the paper folder sharp enough?

SUCCESS!!

Look at these 2 SHARP brothers - Sam and his little brother William on our mufti day.

Great buds, Charlie and William.

Woooooo huge successes - a lot of certificates were given out for partner spelling testing (100%), wonderful writing and other successes in the children's work.

SEA MONKEYS - our new class pets...

Much excitement with these: We ordered them online and worked out how much they were going to cost with postage.
We then read the instructions on how to grow the sea monkeys and when to feed them.
We had some fun realising that our first feeding day (day 5) would be Sunday - so phew ----- lucky Miss Burt can come in and feed them.

Our first syndicate assembly for the year: great to see the classes performing class haka - challenge time!!!

SHARP student Charlie - well done to Charlie - Caitlin and Nara for being the SHARP students in Room 7 this week.
Charlie for great writing and publishing.
Caitlin for fitting in so well to her new classroom and school.
Nara for good reading and work.

KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE: Here are some Room 7 students working with students from R11. They were discussing and writing about how they keep themselves safe at school, home, playground and in the community. Some great discussion and I'm sure Constable Keely was super impressed when she was in talking to Room 7 on Wednesday.
Next week's home learning will be about the students talking to their mum, dad, nana (whom ever they live with at home) about safety plans. (Emergency plans).

A great Greytown School cross country at the Barton's farm, we are so lucky to be able to use their farm land. It's a magic spot!

A great day cross country was - I love this photo below - the joy of motherhood...speaking of "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL YOU MUMMIES OUT THERE!"

Happy Birthday to Hazel = happy class wishing her all the best for her birthday =)
For maths on Friday the class started making a board game...using addition and subtraction.

Eva and her lovely Mother's Day writing for her mum.
