SHARP LESSON...

Your children 'blow me away' =)
This is a classic - I have just typed up all the things the children have written about what resilience means and what you can do if you make a mistake.

I THEN lost all that I had typed - and my first thought was to “flag it” - then I thought of my 7, 8 and 9 year old students whom I had just read all what they had written - and their words rang in my head. .  DON’T GIVE UP!

The questions asked were:
What does resiliency mean to you?
Draw and write about a time that you have 'bounced' back from, a frustrating/hard time. What did you do?
How did you feel after you 'bounced' back?
If you make a mistake, what can you do?

The words below are written by 7, 8 and 9 year old children!

RESILIENCE:
Never give up. Turn over to the clean page - don't waste it. It's ok to make mistakes, it's not ok to stop! You can take a deep breath, close your eyes and think of a good time. Bounce back and get over it. Start again. Have a sleep or have a handful of raw cashew nuts. Make it better. Start it over again and play it in a positive way. Keep on trying. I felt proud of me. I felt positive and then went for a sleep. Get stronger. You can do it. If you say I can't do, say that's not true, say to yourself I can't do it yet. Learn from it. Learn from Miss Take. Fix it up. Get over something. You cross it out and try again and don't give up. When I went to my Auntie's funeral I was sad, but I felt positive as I realised she was watching me. Become a new person. Get a new life. Eat an ice-cream or something yummy. Sing a song. Take a deep breath. Don't let yourself down. Say sorry and stop it. I know it looks bad but you will get through it, let's take a break.

Reach your goal and never give up on what you're trying to do. Trying your best, best, best! When I had to leave my old house I was sad and I thought about our new house and how much better it was going to be. Get on with your life. Believe in yourself, that you can do it! Sometimes you can't do it, yet! Bounce back and try again or get over it. If ti's a big mistake then try again, if you can't then you just have to get over it. If it's a small mistake either fix i or try again instead of sitting on the floor crying. Get over it in a positive way. Make me happy. Try to sort it out yourself or talk to someone.

Week 3 in SUPER SHARP SEVEN

School athletics this Tuesday - children may wear their house colour top and their black shorts. Please make sure your child has their school sunhat, sunblock on, extra drink and a good packed lunch. =)

I LOVE this - in our school we are doing a new thing called LEARNING MAPS.
Before I the students in Room 7 did their own learning maps - we brainstormed 'What is learning'....read the responses.

HABITAT HEROES...Leading up to Conservation Week we are looking at different habitats 1) around our school & home. 2) Around our town. 3) In New Zealand. 4) In the WORLD.

WHAT IS A HABITAT?
Angus - Is where something lives
Xaivier - Is where nature lives & belongs
Ella - Animals go there to protect themselves
Sam T - An environment where something or someone lives
Olivia - A habitat is a home place for any animal, any plant or human.

This is the list of habitats that Room 7 came up with (I was VERY IMPRESSED!!).

We are going to build up our knowledge - so we can make dioramas.
To make these, we need:
SHOE BOXES
SMALL BOXES
CELLOPHANE
CARDBOARD
MATERIALS
LITTLE FAKE STICKS
LITTE CREATURES
TIN FOIL
SHELLS
DRIFTWOOD
BUBBLE WRAP
AND ANYTHING ELSE YOUR CHILD MAY NEED.

We have been talking about the WHIO - blue duck - which features on the NZ $10 note. Here were are with the new $10 note and the old one on the right.
Ask your child what they have learnt about the whio?

This is the competition Room 7 are doing. The children only have 50 words to use to tell the judges why Mrs Kirkland WOWS us. We have taken some great photos of all the different displays in the library. The children are presenting their writing in either a letter, poem, picCollage, story or wanted posted. I look forward to sending these in - and then waiting to hear how Room 7 has done.
Our brainstorm about Mrs Kirkland. And our WOW comments.

Imogen enjoying her down time to read in our school library.

Mrs Kirkland is very good at changing the displays in the library.

A great week in Room 7 - week 2, term 4. Pho

SHARP STUDENTS - well done to Daisy - who 'just out of the blue' was given a SHARP certificate for Achievement - Daisy's quick recall with the basic facts has improved so much since the beginning of the year - also her answering in literacy - nice detailed answers.
Jayden - our other SHARP student for week 2 - well done for his use of growth mindset and positive comments to other students.
Sam T- For helping out classmates and being patient. Patience is a virtue - waiting won't hurt you. Well done Sam!
Phoebe is telling the class about her amazing sleep over at Kelly Tarlton's - wow, what a great time her family had sleeping under the stingrays, sharks and other sea creatures.

WHAT A FUN PET DAY WE HAD - Miss Burt definitely enjoys helping in the lamb pen ;) We had a few run aways this year (LOL).
I was very proud of the Zentangle art that Room 7 produced and well done to Abby H for being the overall winner. I presented each child with a certificate (see below).

KAPA HAKA festival - he tino pai Olivia, Erana & Seb for being in the kapa haka and representing our school last Thursday in the Wairarapa kapa haka festival.

CUDDLES DIARY - Cuddles had a most interesting adventure at Evie's house during the week. Here is Evie reading his diary....a) Cuddles got married and b) Cuddles had babies!!!!!
REAL LIFE MATHS: On Friday (handing in homework time) - only 4 out of 28 children handed in the "Whio - colouring in competition" - so this led to GREAT MATHS. (see below).
I presented the outcome in a fraction - I drew 28 children and Ella coloured in 4 children to show how many children completed the colouring comp and how many did not.
We then counted in our 4's (4 x tables, 7 x 4 = 28).
I then explained how we could then make the fraction 4/28 into 1/7.
I introduced some new vocabulary: numerator and denominator (ask your child what these words mean) - look at the photo for help.

MANDARIN LESSONS WITH FLORA - Martial Arts on the turf.
Flora led us in a martial arts lesson - wow what good exercise.
There are some flexible children in Room 7 - I was very impressed.
I talked to the children about discipline - and to try and not talk while doing this.

 The hook (see below).
The bend the knee and put it behind and balance - phew-ee I could do it!!!!

Izzie showed the other children how to do this one...the back foot has to be FLAT!!

SHARP LESSON for weeks 1-2 was RESILIENCE. Ask your child what they learnt about this - we had some amazing discussion!
Talk from our discussion ' Just do it - Get over it - Be strong - Be the bigger person - Keep on keeping on - Don't give up - If you make a mistake keep on - You can't do it yet (some great growth mindset talk going on here).

Enjoy the slideshow of pet day photos - =)

And vice versa =)
For writing - we used Andy Griffiths writing idea: Writing maps to write about an awesome time in our holidays: Below are Sam T & Bella sharing the writing maps.
Examples of the writing Room 7 did.....Sadie & Emelia well done!

A NEW MEMBER OF ROOM 7 - Welcome to Room 7 - Jonathan - named by Sadie. Jonathan is Miss Burt's 'POOR' plant - I sort of over watered it during the holidays.
So under the loving care of Milly & Sadie we are giving Jonathan a new lease on life =)
Estimating the size of 'Right Whales" thanks to Jayden for helping to identify the right whales on the clip I showed the class. The children estimated how long they thought a right whale would be - they then used chalk to draw their whale on the concrete. Using metre rulers they measured their whale.

Xaivier completing his measurement book.
