Happy birthday Greta - what a fun Golden time eating yummy banana cake...

Happy Birthday dear Greta - happy 7th birthday in SUPER SHARP 7.
Miss Burt cut the cake in half - 1 half for Greta 1 half for  Miss Burt. .....
but.....

Here is Miss Burt's half.

But...Greta said "Miss Burt we can not be so greedy," ....so Miss Burt - said "Let's cut it again - into quarters...."

Arna got about 1/48th. To be honest the children got a great slice each - and then they got another small slice each.
We learnt that if we had patience we might get a lil bit more.

Greta and her buddies...

George's big head.

Greta and the lucky last girls...to get the Hansel and Gretal crumbs...

Week 10 SUPER SHARP SEVEN...

Here is George telling the class about his buddy Roast Beef.
Wow we had a special visitor in our classroom this morning - his name was Roast Beef. Roast Beef the class worked out to be 40 years old - (we think we are correct) or he could be older.
Roast Beef is George's favourite stuffed toy - George had a show and tell coupon to use - so he used it to bring Roast Beef in.

This is George on his birthday with his wonderful class mates - we sang happy birthday to George in Te Reo Māori and also in English. Wow 7 in SUPER SHARP 7.
Nara has been away for a whole week - Room 7 missed her so they made Nara amazing cards and they put them in the class mail box. Here is Taylor being a lovely friend to Nara and helping Nara read ALL HER CARDS.

WOW super helpers in R7 - Charlie is helping Riliey sharpen his pencil. Maybe Charlie was sharpening his own pencil - Riley was being a nice friend and lent Charlie his pencil sharpener.

FRIDAY - is home learning hand your book in day.
$50 auction dollars!
We do spelling testing on this day - please bring your book in.
Here is Tommy - ready to change his reading book and put his reading log and home learning book into the boxes =) yay.
We worked out that 24 people brought their book so that is $50 each.
Therefore - 24 groups of $50
24 x 50 =
Let's work that out....
The children went into pairs - we had 12 pairs (so double $50 = $100)
12 groups of $100
Therefore 12 x $100
= $1200

Making maths REAL...

Maths is used in all areas of our life...

With Totara Syndicate going on our Te Papa trip next Wednesday - it is important for the children to think about - what this trips costs - and why.
What to bring? And why?
What will we be doing? And why?

To break down the things they need to bring.

Eg: Lunch - make up a good lunch - how much will this cost? We will use Supermarket brochures to find food that will make a good lunch and put in the price of what this costs:

EG:

Counting up the money for our trip. Adding in 20's ($$) and then we worked out that 3 x $20 was the same as $50 + $10.

What do we feel, see, smell & hear when we scooter, skateboard, bike, walk, run or bus to school?

Arna & Khalia like feeling the breeze coming on to them and the leaves blowing on her.

Eva & Greta like feeling the grass under their feet and feeling the breeze on our faces.
Tommy & Freddy see houses and trees, when we go past the trees the leaves fall on us.
William, Tyler & Amelia taste the breeze on their tongues, they hear the whizzing cars.
Cam & Logan feel the spiky cicada  skins on their hands as they saw them when they were scootering so picked them up.
Kaleb likes seeing some of his friends walking to school too.
Taylor & Grace like hearing the birds singing and they hear the breeze in their ears.
Hazel & Aisling hear the leaves rustle under their feet.
Katie & Annalise hear the cicadas buzzing and feel the crunchy leaves on their feet.
Tangaroa & Franklin when they bike to school they like to feel the wind in their faces, they hear their pedals going round and round.
Sam & Riley like walking on the footpath because they hear their loud footsteps. Riley likes it when he scooters and the wind is in his face.
Keiran & George like hearing their bike chain rattling and they see the acorns falling off the trees.
Isla and Maria hear the acorns crashing to the ground and feel the grass tickling their barefeet.

Super SHARP work by Cam - Cam got a principal's award and a SHARP certificate from Miss Burt for his fantastic reading/research on the Tibetan hawk and other hawks. He shared his information with the class.

Enjoy these photos of some of Room 7 children getting sunflower heads to harvest them. This is also part of our junior environment group.
We shared the sunflower heads with several classes, and some children took a head home to dry out.
Room 7 have 2 sunflower heads hanging upside down in our class in organic breathable bags.
Once they are dry - we will take the seeds out - we are going to save the seeds to sell.
The money will go towards buying more plant seeds to plant.
